About Youth Livestock

The youth livestock program at the Mecosta County Free Fair highlights the energy, dedication, and talents of local young exhibitors committed to animal care and agriculture. Throughout fair week, participants showcase a wide variety of livestock projects—from beef, swine, sheep, and goats to small animals—reflecting months of daily responsibility and hands-on learning. Volunteers and community supporters help create opportunities for youth to build leadership skills, confidence, and a strong work ethic in a supportive, competitive environment. Fairgoers can meet exhibitors in the barns, learn about proper animal husbandry, and witness the pride that comes from raising and presenting livestock. Whether cheering in the show ring or participating in the livestock auction, youth livestock events remain a cornerstone of the fair’s celebration of hard work and rural tradition.
